Care Guide For Prevost Piping Systems Picture Of A Stick Of Prevost Pipe

When you choose a Prevost Piping System, you aren’t just buying pipe—you are investing in efficiency. Known for its lightweight aluminum construction, zero-leak guarantee, and superior flow rates, Prevost is widely considered the standard in compressed air.

Air systems require proper maintenance for ideal performance. Unlike old steel pipes, a Prevost system is about precision and smart moisture management.

Here is your guide to maintaining the longevity and efficiency of your Prevost air system.

1. Installation Integrity

  • Ditch the Saw: Never use a hacksaw or abrasive material to cut Prevost aluminum pipe. These tools create jagged, irregular edges. Always use a proper rotary tube cutter.

  • The Golden Rule: Chamfer and Deburr: This is the most critical step in Prevost care. After cutting, you must chamfer (bevel) the outside edge and deburr the inside.

    • Why? The Prevost fitting contains a specialized internal O-ring seal. If you insert a sharp, un-chamfered pipe, you risk slicing that seal, guaranteeing a future leak.
  • Lubrication: To care for the internal seals, apply soapy water or a dedicated assembly lubricant to the pipe end and the fitting seal before insertion. This ensures the pipe glides in smoothly without twisting the O-ring.

2. Moisture Control

One of the biggest advantages of Prevost aluminum pipe is that it does not rust. However, your air compressor still generates moisture. How you manage that water is crucial to system care.

3. The “Living” System: Expansion and Contraction

  • Install Drains at Low Points: Moisture will naturally pool at the lowest points of your piping and at the bottom of vertical drops. Ensure you have automatic drain valves installed in these locations to remove moisture before it builds.

  • Use the Correct Drops: Prevent water from collecting; we suggest Prevost wall brackets with water drains. These allow moisture to flow past the outlet into a drain, while dry air is being pulled.

5. Cleaning the Exterior

In woodworking shops, auto body centers, or industrial plants, pipes get dirty.

  • Wipe Down: If you need to clean the exterior of the pipes, use a soft cloth and a mild detergent.

  • Avoid Solvents: Do not use harsh chemical solvents. Prevost pipes are electrostatic painted (Blue for Air, Green for Nitrogen, Grey for Vacuum). Harsh solvents can strip this color coding, which is essential for safety and compliance.
