Technical Manuals for Prevost Balancers & Reels

Technical Manuals for Prevost Balancers & Reels

An efficient workspace is a safe workspace. Prevost tool balancers are essential for reducing operator fatigue, extending tool life, and keeping assembly lines organized. However, correct installation and maintenance are critical to ensure these devices function safely and effectively.

Whether you are installing a new BAL-F series for heavy industrial loads or setting up a lightweight BAL-A for precision assembly, having the correct technical data is non-negotiable.

Below, you will find the complete library of technical manuals for the Prevost Balancer (BAL) series and DEL electrical reels. These guides include load capacities, safety suspension diagrams, and critical maintenance schedules.

Light & Medium Duty Balancers (BAL-A, BAL-B, BAL-CP)

These series are the workhorses of light assembly lines. They are compact, easy to adjust, and designed for tools ranging from screwdrivers to light impact wrenches.

  • BAL-A Series (0.4 – 3 kg): Ideal for small pneumatic tools and scanners.
    • Key Feature: Stroke limiter clamp to prevent the load from rising above the operator.
  • BAL-B Series (2 – 8 kg): Designed for mid-range tools.
    • Installation Note: For loads exceeding 4 kg, specific suspension configurations are required (refer to Figure 1b in the manual).
  • BAL-CP Series (8 – 14 kg): For heavier handheld tools.
    • Safety: Includes a safety device that locks the operation if the drum spring breaks, preventing the load from falling.

Heavy Duty Balancers (BAL-DP, BAL-F)

For heavy industrial applications, the DP and F series provide robust support for heavy loads up to 105 kg. These manuals contain vital safety information regarding the secondary safety suspension, which is mandatory for these weights.

  • BAL-DP Series (4 – 25 kg): Features a manual locking system to stop drum rotation for tool change-outs.
  • BAL-F Series (25 – 105 kg): The heavyweight champion.
    • Critical Safety: Equipped with a centrifugal speed limiter that locks the drum if the speed exceeds the danger limit (e.g., accidental unhooking).

Specialty Balancers & Reels

Prevost also offers specialized solutions that combine suspension with energy supply.

  • BAL-E Series (Hose Balancers): These unique units combine a polyurethane air hose with the suspension cable.
    • Specs: 8 bar max pressure, available with G1/4 or G3/8 fittings depending on the model.
  • DEL 325 (Electrical Cable Reel): A robust electrical reel with 19m of cable and IP42 protection.
    • Installation: Must be connected to an installation compliant with standard NFC 15100.

📅 Essential Maintenance & Safety Tips

Derived from the official Prevost Maintenance Manuals.

  1. The “Secondary” Safety Chain: All manuals emphasize that the main suspension point (A) and the safety suspension point (S) must not be the same. In the event of a main hook failure, the safety chain prevents the unit from falling more than 100mm.
  2. Spring Tension Adjustment:
    • Increasing Tension: Turn the adjustment knob/screw towards the (+) sign.
    • Decreasing Tension: Turn towards the (-) sign.
    • Warning: On the BAL-E series, never fully discharge the spring past its limit, as this will damage the internal mechanism.
  3. Cable Inspection: Inspect cables regularly for fraying or “bird-caging” (refer to Fig. 4 or Fig. 7 in your specific manual). If the cable shows defects, it must be replaced immediately to prevent catastrophic failure.
  4. Do Not Open the Drum: The spring inside the drum is pre-tensioned and lubricated for life. Opening the drum is extremely dangerous and can cause serious injury. If the spring breaks, the entire drum module must be replaced by a professional.
