Prevost MSC Cyclonic Water Separator

The Prevost MSC Cyclonic Water Separator is a critical first line of defense for any compressed air system, engineered to mechanically remove bulk water and oil aerosols from the air stream. Installed directly after the compressor or receiver tank, this unit utilizes centrifugal force to “spin” contaminants out of the air, protecting downstream equipment from moisture damage.

Equipped with an integrated automatic float drain, the MSC ensures that collected condensate is expelled continuously and reliably without requiring manual intervention, preventing liquid carryover into sensitive dryers or tools.

Key Features & Benefits

  • 99% Bulk Liquid Removal: Uses high-velocity cyclonic action to remove up to 99% of liquid water and oil aerosols. This heavy lifting protects downstream fine filters and extends the life of desiccant or refrigerated dryers.
  • Zero Replacement Costs: Unlike standard filters that use cartridges, the MSC uses mechanical centrifugal force. There are no internal filter elements to clog or replace, keeping maintenance costs near zero.
  • Automatic Float Drain: The built-in float mechanism detects rising condensate levels and automatically opens the drain to discharge liquid. This prevents the bowl from overflowing and re-contaminating the air stream.
  • Low Pressure Drop: The aerodynamic internal design minimizes resistance, allowing air to pass through with negligible pressure loss, thus maintaining system energy efficiency.
  • Robust Construction: Features a durable, corrosion-resistant aluminum housing designed to withstand the heat and vibration often found near compressor outlets.

Technical Specifications

  • Part Series: MSC
  • Technology: Centrifugal Cyclonic Separation
  • Drain Type: Internal Automatic Float Drain
  • Efficiency: Removes ~99% of liquid condensate
  • Operating Pressure: Up to 232 PSI (16 bar)
  • Operating Temperature: +34°F to +176°F (+1°C to +80°C)
  • Housing Material: Aluminum with anti-corrosion treatment
  • Connection: Threaded Inlet/Outlet (BSPP or NPT)

Ideal Applications

  • Compressor Outlets: Installed immediately after the compressor or aftercooler to remove the bulk of condensate created during compression.
  • Pre-Dryer Protection: placed before a refrigerated or desiccant dryer to prevent the dryer from being “flooded” with liquid water.
  • long Pipe Runs: Installed at the beginning of main distribution headers to ensure only bulk-free air enters the factory grid.
