The Prevost Dilatation Kit is a critical engineered component designed to manage the natural expansion and contraction of aluminum piping in large-scale compressed air networks.¹ Because aluminum has a higher thermal expansion coefficient than steel, long straight runs of pipe can “snake” or put stress on fixed mounting brackets when temperatures fluctuate.

This kit provides the necessary “give” to your system, absorbing linear movement to prevent joint fatigue, leaks, and mechanical deformation of your infrastructure.

When Should You Use a Dilatation Kit?

A Dilatation Kit is recommended for any straight pipe run exceeding 30 meters (approx. 100 feet), especially in environments where:

• The facility is subject to seasonal temperature shifts (e.g., non-climate-controlled manufacturing).
• The air from the compressor is significantly hotter than the ambient room temperature.
• The piping is installed near heat sources or skylights.

Pro Tip: To work effectively, these kits must be installed between two “fixed points” (rigidly anchored brackets) to ensure the expansion is forced toward the sliding joint rather than toward a corner or a drop.
